Strength Training

November is the time to focus on strength training. Ideally, you want good stabilization, a strong middle, and good flexibility. Additionally, you want to address your muscle weaknesses and imbalances. Before you go to a maximum strength phase and then a power phase, we need to make sure the body is prepared. You need a great foundation and a very stable core established before you can progress. The focus is not on the amount of weight that you can lift; the focus is on functional strength training and developing a strong core that will ultimately make you a stronger and faster athlete.

Our body and our muscles are programmed to provide posture and support before providing performance. What this means is that if you don’t have good stabilization, posture, and form (core strength), the muscles that you count on for performance are recruited to provide support for your posture. You need to make sure you have strong postural and stabilization muscles and form before you build your performance muscles. Each strength phase is progressive, and you need to acquire the proficiency of each phase before progressing to the next.

Non-Competitive Season Training

Starting November 7, SportVelo is partnering with Al Painter to expand the Monday morning core workouts into two more workouts.

Designed as an indoor winter training session to combat the cold and dark, the Tuesday evening Indoor Peloton class at 6:30PM is an indoor cycling session with intervals and core work. Every Indoor Peloton class will be different, and each class is customized for the participants. We are focusing on fun, pedaling drills, and technique, all designed to prepare you for longer rides. We’ve also added a Wednesday 6:30PM strength workout that can be one of your strength workouts during the non-competitive season. Email Dan to reserve your spot in advance for the Indoor Peloton class on Tuesday nights.

Check the calendar for all SportVelo workouts, as well as races where SportVelo athletes are competing.
